School Nutrition Services
Welcome to BUUSD School Nutrition Services
The Barre Unified Union School District is pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2024, Genuine Foods has been selected as your new food service provider for all schools within our District. Genuine Foods operates a little differently than other food companies, good different! Their recipe is simple, take vibrant, high-quality, locally sourced ingredients and transform them into delicious, flavorful, craveable, and culturally inspired meals. Genuine Foods cooks from scratch because, as any tastebud can tell you, scratch-made food just tastes better. It also happens to be better for you. When BUUSD works with Genuine Foods to plan menus, we want to make sure to highlight diverse cuisines and flavors so we can create inclusive and welcoming spaces to eat, while also providing our students with critical exposure to new foods.
The menus will be inspired by you - your community and the wider ecosystem of artisans, producers, and cultural influences that create a distinct taste of place. Want to know what’s on the menu? Now you will be able to view our offerings anytime through food service website alongside ingredient lists and nutrition labels. Have a food allergy or need a dietary accommodation? Reach out to our staff at monica.tolman@genuinefoods.com so we can make sure all your needs are met.
Inevitably, this year your student will experience meals they love, just like, and some that aren’t quite right. We’ll work directly with your school to make changes in real time, but we also want to hear directly from you. To reach out to us, email Jennifer Hutchinson District Manager of School Nutrition Services at jhutcbsu@buusd.org or feel free to scan this QR code to complete a short feedback survey.
We are so grateful for this partnership and can’t wait to serve you.

Community Eligibility Provision
We are very excited to announce that starting this school year all of our schools now participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This provision and Universal Free meals ensure that all BUUSD students will continue to receive free breakfast, lunch, regardless of household income eligibility.
While meals are free, it is still helpful for families to complete a Household Income form. Filling out this form only takes a few minutes. It will help your community, your school and your property taxes. The information you give helps your school access federal and state education dollars. This funding supports reading, math, science, arts, PE, afterschool and other vital programming. The privacy of your household financial information is protected by law. Information collected through this form will be handled in accordance with privacy requirements. Only one form is needed per household.
The most convenient way to complete this form is online with the link provided here. https://education.vermont.gov/
If you have questions regarding your student's meal eligibility, please contact our District Manager of School Nutrition Services at 802-476-5011 ext 1023 or jhutcbsu@buusd.org.
