I am very excited to enter my third year as the Superintendent of Schools of the Barre Unified Union School district! I have had a highly rewarding career as both a teacher and school leader in Barre, and I've spent seventeen of my over thirty years as an educator serving this community in a variety of roles as both a teacher and school leader. Assuming the superintendency in 2021 gave me a tremendous opportunity to give back to a district that has had so much impact on me both professionally and personally during my career. Starting off as a high school social studies teacher and moving on to running alternative programs and schools early in my career, I have since had the opportunity to serve as a building leader at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in both Montpelier and Barre since 2006. My hope is that these diverse experiences continue to serve me and the students and families of the Barre district well for years to come.
I live with my family in a close knit and beautiful neighborhood near downtown Montpelier, and my 21 year old twin daughters will be starting their senior years of college this fall. My partner Shannon is also an educational leader with strong connections to Barre, and we both hold the students and staff of this community very close to our hearts. To stay healthy, I am an avid reader who regularly works out at the gym, plays baseball in the Vermont Senior League, and, when time allows, participates in various community theater productions in the region. A well balanced life is important to me, and I hope to model this approach to my work to all of my colleagues in the years ahead.
